Coos County, OR (January 13, 2026) – A police pursuit that began in Springfield ended in a crash near Highway 101 in Coos County on Monday morning, leaving three children with minor injuries and prompting an urgent search for the fleeing suspect.
The incident began around 7:20 a.m. when Springfield police responded to a reported assault and robbery at a business in the Gateway area. A woman reported being attacked, and her belongings were stolen. Following the report, authorities issued a warrant for the suspect’s arrest.
Using license plate readers, Oregon State Police later located the suspect’s vehicle near Coos Bay, sparking a pursuit that ended with a crash on West Beaver Hill Rd, just off Highway 101. Inside the vehicle, officers discovered three children, all of whom sustained minor injuries and were treated by medical personnel at the scene.
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Marcquis White, fled the crash site on foot. He is described as an African American male last seen wearing a blue Nike jumpsuit. Authorities believe he may be armed and have urged the public not to approach him.
Multiple agencies, including the Coos County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police, are actively searching for White. Residents in the area have been advised to stay indoors, avoid the vicinity of West Beaver Hill Rd, and report any sightings immediately by calling 911.
