Houston, TX (January 14, 2026) – A deadly collision occurred on the outbound lanes of the Katy Freeway near the Heights, resulting in the death of a driver whose vehicle had stalled near Taylor St. The Houston Police Department confirmed the crash took place when a wrecker truck collided with the rear of a Toyota Corolla that was stopped in a travel lane.
Authorities stated that the driver of the Toyota had their hazard lights activated at the time of the incident. Despite this, the stalled vehicle was struck by a wrecker that was reportedly en route to assist at a separate scene. The impact of the crash led to severe injuries, and despite attempts at CPR, the driver of the Corolla was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the wrecker, along with a passenger, remained on-site and cooperated with police. Officials noted that there were no signs of intoxication from the wrecker operator. Investigators are now reviewing speed and other contributing factors to determine the exact cause of the collision.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual who lost their life in this tragic incident.
