Delmont, PA (January 14, 2026) – A Delmont Police K-9 and his handler are recovering at home after being struck by a vehicle while assisting with a crash on Route 22 this past weekend. Officer Dylan Keffer and K-9 Dirk were helping Murrysville police on an unrelated incident when they were dispatched to another call in Murrysville on Sunday evening.
Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Keffer activated his lights when another vehicle came up from behind and struck the police K-9 unit. Both Officer Keffer and K-9 Dirk were taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, they were both released and are now resting at home.
Delmont Police Chief T.J. Klobucar expressed gratitude for the community’s support and care for Officer Keffer and K-9 Dirk. “We are thankful that their injuries were not more serious and look forward to their return to service,” Klobucar said in a statement.
