Jackson Co, MO (January 16, 2026) – A two-vehicle accident involving a passenger car and a dump truck left one person injured on Thursday afternoon on westbound I-70, just west of the 26.8 mile marker in Jackson County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the collision occurred around 3:00 p.m. when a 2007 International dump truck entered the highway from a median construction zone. As it merged into traffic, a 2005 Pontiac Vibe traveling westbound collided with the rear of the truck.
The driver of the Pontiac, a 21-year-old man from New Concord, OH, sustained injuries in the impact. Emergency medical services transported him to Centerpoint Medical Center for further treatment. He was reported to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The dump truck, driven by a 20-year-old male from Rushville, MO, suffered minor damage and was able to be driven from the scene. The Pontiac Vibe, however, was totaled and required removal by Jackson County Tow.
Troopers from Troop A, along with additional assisting officers, responded to the scene to manage traffic and initiate the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the dump truck’s entry from the construction zone was a contributing factor in the crash, though further investigation is ongoing.
We extend our best wishes to the injured driver as he recovers.
