Phoenix, AZ (January 18, 2026) – A devastating crash believed to involve an impaired driver left two young boys critically injured and hospitalized two adults on Friday night in south Phoenix. The incident occurred just before 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of 19th Ave and Southern Ave and involved a pickup truck and a passenger car.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the driver of the pickup truck was attempting to make a left turn when it collided with the car, which was carrying two adults and two children. All four occupants of the car sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals.
Both boys suffered critical injuries as a result of the impact. Additionally, one of the adults was also listed in critical condition, according to earlier reports from firefighters on the scene. The second adult was also hospitalized, though their condition has not been made public.
Police believe impairment played a role in the crash. The driver of the pickup truck was detained at the scene, processed for DUI, and later released pending toxicology results. Officials continue to investigate the incident and are awaiting confirmation from lab testing to determine the full extent of the driver’s impairment at the time of the crash.
