Memphis, TN (January 19, 2026) – Emergency responders rushed to the scene of a serious single-vehicle crash early Monday morning that left two people injured along a major Memphis interstate. The collision occurred just after 3:30 a.m. on the westbound side of I-240 near Lamar Ave, prompting a rapid response from Memphis Police and Fire units.
First responders, including medics and fire crews, provided immediate assistance to both occupants of the vehicle. According to reports, the car veered off the roadway and ended up in a ditch. Medics transported the passenger to Regional One Health in critical condition, while the driver was taken in non-critical condition for further medical evaluation. Emergency crews worked swiftly to stabilize both individuals before clearing the scene.
The driver of the vehicle told authorities that the steering wheel began shaking moments before the crash, leading to a loss of control. Photographs captured at the scene showed extensive damage to the car and the two injured individuals being loaded into ambulances.
Following the incident, Memphis Police issued the driver a citation for multiple violations, including operating a vehicle without a state-issued license, failure to provide financial responsibility, and failure to maintain proper control of the vehicle. The investigation into the mechanical failure claim and other contributing factors is ongoing.
