Chicago, IL (January 19, 2026) – A deadly collision early on Sunday morning forced the closure of a major section of the Eisenhower Expressway in Chicago’s western suburbs. The crash occurred near Home Ave, between Harlem and Oak Park Avenues, a heavily trafficked corridor connecting the city to surrounding suburbs.
Illinois State Police responded to the scene at approximately 2:53 a.m. on January 18. The collision involved a Jeep and a Saturn traveling on the outbound lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway. According to officials, one individual was ejected from a vehicle and died at the scene. A second occupant was transported to the hospital in unknown condition.
In addition to the fatal injuries, the crash left multiple vehicles damaged and scattered along the roadway. Emergency crews worked for several hours to secure the area, investigate the scene, and clear the wreckage.
As a result of the collision, all outbound lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway were shut down between Harlem and Central Avenues for roughly six hours. Authorities reopened the roadway around 9:35 a.m. after completing initial investigations and cleanup.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
