Chicago, IL (January 19, 2026) – A devastating early morning crash on DuSable Lake Shore Drive claimed the life of one woman and injured four others, according to reports from the Chicago Police Department. The incident occurred near Soldier Field in the 2500 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Dr at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Sunday.
Authorities stated that the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then collided with a pole before striking a median. One female passenger sustained severe traumatic injuries and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
The driver and three other adult passengers were also taken to the same hospital for evaluation and treatment. Officials described their conditions as good.
Following the crash, two lanes of traffic were closed in the area while crews responded and cleared the wreckage. CTA bus routes No. 6 Jackson Park Express and No. J14 Jeffery Jump was rerouted for a time due to the incident near 27th St, but has since resumed normal service.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
