Bradenton, FL (January 21, 2026) – A tragic early morning crash on Monday claimed the life of a 16-year-old passenger and left a 17-year-old critically injured after their motorcycle collided with a car at the intersection of State Road 70 and Caruso Rd, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred around 3:22 a.m. near Manatee Technical College. Troopers say the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by a 17-year-old from Bradenton, was traveling eastbound on SR-70 when it entered the intersection against a steady red light. At the same time, a Chevy sedan was heading west and attempting to turn left onto Caruso Rd during a green light.
The two vehicles collided in the intersection, ejecting both the motorcycle’s driver and passenger from the bike on impact. Emergency responders from Manatee County EMS pronounced the 16-year-old passenger dead at the scene.
The teenage driver of the motorcycle was rushed to HCA Florida Blake Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the sedan sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.
The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, and officials have not yet released the identities of those involved.
Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the teens affected by this heartbreaking incident. We extend our deepest condolences and hope for a full recovery for the injured rider.
