Beaufort County, SC (January 21, 2026) – A Bluffton man was tragically killed after being struck by a tractor-trailer on US 17 just north of River Rd, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office.
The incident occurred around 8:11 p.m. when a northbound 1999 Peterbilt tractor-trailer struck a pedestrian who was reportedly in the roadway. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and confirmed the pedestrian, later identified as 48-year-old Scott McKeever, was pronounced dead at 7:55 p.m. from blunt force injuries.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured, and no other vehicles were involved. Officials have not released information regarding why McKeever was in the roadway at the time of the collision.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash. The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office is overseeing matters related to the victim’s death and has confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted.
