Omaha, NE (January 24, 2026) – Emergency crews responded to a traumatic incident near South 17th Street and the Union Pacific railroad tracks, where a pedestrian was struck by a train. Radio traffic confirmed the victim, a male, suffered a severe injury resulting in the amputation of his right arm.
According to dispatch audio, the man was alert, conscious, and breathing when officers and fire personnel arrived on the scene. First responders applied a tourniquet to control bleeding, and rescue operations were coordinated swiftly with Union Pacific and local police to manage both the scene and nearby train traffic.
The incident occurred in the Durham area, close to 16th and Pierce Streets, a zone known for multiple rail crossings and pedestrian activity. It’s unclear how the individual ended up on the tracks or if impairment or external factors were involved.
