Trinity County, CA (January 25, 2026) – A deadly crash occurred Saturday evening on State Route 299 just east of Big French Creek Road, claiming the lives of at least three individuals. The collision, which involved a red sedan and a white SUV, took place around 6:45 p.m. on January 24 and prompted a large-scale response from multiple agencies, including Trinity County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol.
First responders arrived to find a two-vehicle head-on collision with major damage and multiple victims. Emergency crews confirmed three fatalities at the scene. At least one additional person required extrication and advanced medical support. Helicopters were dispatched to assist with patient transport, and two evidence tows were requested as part of the investigation.
The westbound lane of SR-299 was blocked for several hours while officials worked to secure the scene and conduct a preliminary investigation. Tow crews, including Buddy’s Auto Tow, were contacted for vehicle removal and evidence preservation. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims, and the exact cause of the crash remains under active investigation.
