San Mateo, CA (January 26, 2026) – Authorities have identified the woman who was fatally struck in a pedestrian accident on January 24 near the intersection of S El Camino Real and 17th Ave. The victim, 62-year-old Veronica Vasquez of Redwood City, was pronounced dead at a local hospital following the collision.
San Mateo Police responded to the area around 10:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found Vasquez suffering from life-threatening injuries in the roadway.
Paramedics provided emergency care at the scene before transporting her to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Vasquez succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.
Investigators determined that Vasquez had been walking in the north crosswalk of South El Camino Real at 17th Ave when a vehicle turning northbound from Bovet Rd onto South El Camino Real struck her. According to police, Bovet Rd becomes 17th Ave on the east side of the intersection, where the crash occurred.
The incident remains under investigation by the San Mateo Police Department as authorities work to determine any contributing factors in the collision.
