Box Elder Co, UT (January 30, 2026) – A 22-year-old man tragically lost his life early on Thursday morning following a high-speed crash on Interstate 15 just south of Brigham City, according to the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP).
Authorities reported that they received a call shortly before 2:00 a.m. about a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed without its headlights on. Moments later, a witness spotted the same vehicle crashing off the right shoulder of I-15.
Troopers arrived to find the vehicle wrecked with the driver already deceased at the scene. The man, whose name has not yet been publicly released, was the sole occupant of the car. Investigators believe that he may have collided with another vehicle before losing control. However, if a second vehicle was involved, it did not remain at the scene.
Later in the morning, a semi-truck driver contacted authorities, leading investigators to consider the possibility that the 22-year-old may have struck the rear of a tractor-trailer prior to the fatal crash. The full circumstances remain under investigation as UHP works to reconstruct the events that led up to the collision.
This portion of I-15 was temporarily impacted while crews cleared the scene and began a thorough investigation. Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the vehicle before the collision to come forward with information.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the young man whose life was lost, and we recognize the efforts of the Utah Highway Patrol in their ongoing work to bring clarity to this heartbreaking incident.
