North Berwick, ME (January 30, 2026) – A tragic accident involving an Amtrak Downeaster train and a truck in North Berwick claimed the life of Aiden Keefe, a senior at Noble High School, on January 29. The fatal crash prompted an outpouring of grief across the school and the surrounding community.
According to a letter issued by the school principal, Keefe was the driver of the truck that collided with the train. The message, sent Thursday evening, described Keefe as a valued and deeply missed member of the school community. Support resources were made available to students and staff in the wake of the loss.
In a tribute to their classmate, Noble High School students held a moment of silence on Friday morning. School counselors were available throughout the day, and the school confirmed that Friday night’s basketball game would be held in Keefe’s honor.
Emergency responders and local law enforcement were at the scene of the crash, which resulted in the full closure of the area while the initial investigation was underway. Amtrak and North Berwick Police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Aiden Keefe during this incredibly difficult time.
