Detroit, MI (January 31, 2026) – A high-speed rear-end collision on the highway near W Grand Blvd resulted in injuries to three individuals on January 30, prompting a Level 1 trauma response from Detroit Fire and EMS. The crash involved multiple vehicles and caused significant damage, particularly to the rear of one vehicle.
According to emergency communications, the first injured party was a 40-year-old passenger who had reportedly lost consciousness after the vehicle she was riding in was struck from behind at an estimated 60 to 70 miles per hour. The car sustained heavy rear-end damage, with full airbag deployment and a bent headrest. The woman suffered neck, back, abdominal, and knee pain and appeared post-concussive at the time of assessment. Medics monitored her fluctuating responsiveness, raising concerns about a potential head injury.
The second victim, a 37-year-old driver of the same vehicle, complained of back and neck pain. Although she refused a cervical collar and did not allow full vital checks, responders noted that she was alert and communicative, but required Spanish-language interpretation for ongoing care.
A third individual involved in the crash, a 68-year-old man, self-extricated from his vehicle after reportedly spinning out and striking a wall. His car suffered left rear fender damage and airbag deployment. He reported right flank and left hip pain but did not lose consciousness, and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. His elevated blood pressure was also noted during transport.
All three patients were transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Officials stated that the first patient was the most critical, though all were conscious and stable during transit.
Investigators have not yet confirmed what led to the high-speed impact, and the incident remains under review by local authorities.
We extend our thoughts to all individuals injured in this crash and hope for their full and swift recovery.
