Whitman County, WA (January 31, 2026) – A tragic collision involving a semi-truck on January 30 claimed the life of a 22-year-old woman and left a young man critically injured near the intersection of Highway 195 and Hamilton Hill Rd/Albion Rd. The crash occurred around 1:50 p.m. when a car crossing the highway from Albion Rd failed to yield and was struck broadside by a southbound semi-truck, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Angelina I. D’Amato, a Pullman resident and passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed she was wearing a seat belt, and her family has been notified. The impact caused catastrophic damage to the vehicle, leading to immediate emergency response and roadway closures in the area.
The driver, Vincent X. Long, 20, of Maple Valley, was also restrained and suffered critical injuries in the collision. He was airlifted to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, where he remains in a coma. The semi-truck driver, Steven F. Bauer, 66, of Lewiston, Idaho, was uninjured and fully cooperative with investigators.
Washington State Patrol does not believe impairment played a role in the crash. An investigation remains ongoing to determine all contributing factors.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Angelina D’Amato, and our thoughts remain with Vincent Long as he continues to fight for recovery.
