Mason City, IA (February 2, 2026) – A tragic pedestrian accident claimed the life of a man Saturday afternoon in Mason City. The incident occurred around 2:38 p.m. in the parking lot of a Fareway grocery store located along North Delaware Avenue.
According to information released by the Iowa State Patrol, a vehicle was traveling through the parking lot when it struck a 75-year-old man. The impact caused serious injuries, prompting an immediate response from local authorities and emergency medical personnel.
Mason City police officers and fire crews arrived at the scene to assist, while paramedics provided medical care to the injured pedestrian. Due to the severity of his injuries, the man was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries. His identity has not been released at this time.
The parking lot and surrounding area experienced temporary disruptions as officials worked to secure the scene and begin an investigation. The Iowa State Patrol confirmed that the incident is being investigated by both the Mason City Police Department and Mason City Fire Department.
