Cape Girardeau, MO (February 20, 2026) – A 46-year-old man from Jackson died Wednesday afternoon after a motorcycle crash in Cape Girardeau. The collision happened around 4:32 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, in the 300 block of N Kingshighway.

According to preliminary information, a 2003 Yamaha FZS10 motorcycle was traveling northbound on N Kingshighway. At the same time, a 2014 Buick Encore pulled out of a private drive and attempted to travel eastbound across Kingshighway. The motorcycle struck the rear passenger side of the SUV.

The motorcyclist, identified as Robin Lankford, 46, was ejected during the crash. He was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. Reports indicate he was wearing a helmet, but it apparently came off during the collision. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Emergency units responded to the scene and secured the roadway while crews worked in the area. The incident remains under review by authorities. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.

How Motorcycle Crashes at Driveways and Intersections Occur?

Motorcycle crashes often happen when a vehicle enters or crosses a roadway from a private drive or side street. Drivers may have difficulty judging the speed or distance of an approaching motorcycle, especially on busy roads like Kingshighway. Because motorcycles are smaller than passenger vehicles, they can be harder to see in traffic.

When a motorcycle strikes the side of a vehicle, the rider may be thrown from the bike. Even with a helmet, ejection can lead to severe injuries due to the direct impact with the roadway or another surface. Protective gear can reduce the risk of certain injuries, but it does not prevent all harm in a high-force collision.

Drivers entering main roads are encouraged to check carefully in both directions and allow enough time before crossing. Riders can also improve visibility by using headlights and wearing bright clothing, particularly in areas with multiple driveways and turning vehicles.
