How Highway Intersection Crashes Often Lead to Serious Injuries
Highway intersections can be dangerous because vehicles travel at higher speeds than on local roads. When a driver attempts to cross or enter a highway, there may be a limited time to react to approaching traffic. This increases the chance of a severe impact.
Large trucks require more distance to slow down due to their weight and size. Even when a driver reacts quickly, stopping in time may not be possible. This can cause serious harm to people in smaller vehicles.
Seat belts and child safety restraints can reduce the risk of injury in a crash. Road design, visibility, and careful driving decisions can also affect safety. Drivers who wait for a clear gap in traffic can lower the risk of a collision at highway intersections.
