St. Charles County, MO (February 26, 2026) – Three people were injured following a crash involving a passenger car and a large truck on Wednesday afternoon, February 25, at the intersection of southbound US Hwy 61 and Dietrich Rd.
According to the report, a 2022 Chevrolet Cavalier was stopped at a stop sign on eastbound Dietrich Rd. The vehicle entered the intersection and failed to yield to a southbound 2006 Sterling L9500 truck traveling on US Hwy 61. The truck driver applied the brakes and skidded before striking the left rear of the Cavalier.
The impact caused the Cavalier to rotate and leave the roadway. The vehicle then struck a cable barrier, causing severe damage. The truck sustained minor damage and was later removed from the scene.
A 37-year-old woman in the Cavalier suffered serious injuries. A 40-year-old male driver and a 68-year-old female passenger in the same vehicle suffered moderate injuries. All three were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The 25-year-old truck driver was not reported injured.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available. Our thoughts are with those injured as they recover.
Why Intersection Crashes Often Result in Serious Injuries
Crashes at intersections frequently happen when one vehicle fails to yield the right of way. Even at lower speeds, the angle of impact can lead to significant vehicle damage and injuries to occupants.
Stop signs and traffic controls help manage vehicle flow, but drivers must still check for oncoming traffic before entering. Larger vehicles, such as trucks, require more distance to stop and may not be able to avoid a collision if another vehicle enters unexpectedly.
Seat belts can reduce injury severity by keeping occupants securely positioned during impact. Intersections remain common locations for crashes, which is why careful observation and proper yielding are key to reducing injury risk.
