Why Rollover Crashes Often Cause Serious Injuries
Rollover crashes can be especially dangerous because they expose occupants to multiple points of impact. When a vehicle overturns, people inside may be jolted or struck by interior surfaces. Larger vehicles, including trucks, are more likely to roll over if they leave the roadway or travel on uneven ground.
Roadway departure is one of the leading causes of rollover accidents. This can happen due to driver fatigue, distraction, or overcorrection while steering. Rural roads may also have narrow shoulders or soft edges that increase rollover risk.
Seat belts can help reduce injury severity by keeping occupants in place during the crash. Vehicle design, speed, and road conditions also influence how serious a rollover accident may become.
