Mount Washington, KY (March 2, 2026) – A fatal two-vehicle crash occurred on Saturday evening, February 28, at the intersection of KY-44 East and Watergate Drive in Mount Washington.
The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. Reports indicate a juvenile driving a Toyota Tacoma westbound on KY-44 East lost control after the passenger-side tires dropped onto a steep shoulder. While attempting to correct the vehicle, it crossed the center line and struck an eastbound Ford Escape.
The impact caused the Ford Escape to slide down a small embankment and flip onto its roof. The driver of the Ford Escape, 27-year-old Sarah Weisman of Shepherdsville, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bullitt County Coroner.
The juvenile driver of the Toyota Tacoma was not injured in the crash. No additional details about the circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the roadway have been released. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.
How Vehicle Departures from the Roadway Can Lead to Severe Crashes
Crashes often occur when a vehicle leaves the roadway and attempts to re-enter traffic. When tires drop onto steep shoulders, drivers may overcorrect, causing the vehicle to cross lanes unexpectedly. Such sudden movements can put the vehicle directly in the path of oncoming traffic.
Vehicle speed and roadway conditions play a significant role in how severe a crash becomes. High speeds reduce reaction time, while steep embankments and narrow shoulders can increase the likelihood of a rollover if a vehicle leaves the road.
Safety features like seat belts, airbags, and reinforced frames help reduce injury risk, but collisions with other vehicles or objects still pose serious hazards. Intersections, curves, and changes in road elevation are common areas where these accidents occur.
