Palm Beach Gardens, FL (March 10, 2026) – A 92-year-old man died after a three-vehicle crash on Sunday evening, March 9, at the intersection of Alternate A1A and Atlantic Road in Palm Beach Gardens.
Emergency units responded after a collision involving a 2017 Toyota RAV4, a 2014 Dodge Charger, and a 2016 Kia Soul. According to reports, the Toyota was traveling southbound in the left-turn lane on Alternate A1A when it attempted to turn left onto Atlantic Road.
Officials said the Toyota entered the path of the northbound Dodge Charger, which struck the passenger side of the SUV. The impact pushed the Toyota northeast until it came to rest on a sidewalk. A Kia Soul traveling behind the Dodge swerved in an attempt to avoid the crash but struck the passenger side of the Charger.
The Toyota’s driver, a 92-year-old woman, and her passenger, identified as Hans Homburger, 92, were taken to Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. Authorities said Homburger later died from injuries suffered in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim, and wish the injured driver a swift recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Collisions at Turning Intersections
Intersections such as Alternate A1A and Atlantic Road can create risk due to turning movements. When injuries are reported in Palm Beach Gardens, crews often work to stabilize traffic flow and protect those at the scene.
Crashes involving left turns may occur when a vehicle crosses oncoming traffic while entering a side street. Drivers approaching from the opposite direction may have limited time to slow down or avoid a collision if the turn happens suddenly.
When multiple vehicles are close together, additional crashes can occur as drivers attempt to avoid the initial impact. Sudden braking or swerving may lead to secondary collisions, especially on busy roads where vehicles travel in several lanes.
