The crash remains under investigation.
We extend our thoughts to those injured and wish them a full recovery.
Why Turning Movements Often Lead to Motorcycle Crashes
Intersections such as East Viking Road and South Pacific Street often involve vehicles traveling in different directions while drivers make turns across traffic. When a driver turns left or enters a roadway without seeing an approaching motorcycle, the rider may have little time to react.
Motorcycles are smaller and harder to spot than larger vehicles, especially when drivers focus on nearby traffic or judge gaps in oncoming lanes. Even a brief delay in noticing a motorcycle can result in a collision if the rider is already close to the intersection.
When a motorcycle strikes the side of another vehicle, the rider may be thrown from the bike because there is no protective barrier. The angle of impact and the speed of both vehicles can strongly influence how serious the injuries become in these types of crashes.
