Why Rear-End Motorcycle Accidents Often Lead to Serious Injuries
Motorcycle crashes often result in severe harm because riders have significantly less protection than drivers in enclosed vehicles. Even at moderate speeds, a sudden impact can throw a rider from the motorcycle and onto the pavement or into nearby traffic.
Rear-end crashes involving motorcycles can happen when vehicles slow or turn unexpectedly, or when the following distance becomes too short. Because motorcycles are smaller, they may also be harder for other drivers to see during turning movements.
Protective gear, such as helmets, jackets, and gloves, can reduce the risk of certain injuries, but it cannot eliminate the dangers involved in a direct impact. Road surface conditions, traffic flow, and visibility can also influence the severity of a crash.
