How Head-On Crashes Happen on Two-Lane Roads
Head-on crashes often occur when a vehicle crosses the center line into oncoming traffic. This can happen for several reasons, including driver distraction, fatigue, or sudden attempts to avoid something in the roadway.
Two-lane highways without barriers can increase the risk of this type of collision. When vehicles travel in opposite directions at high speeds, even a brief lane departure can lead to a serious impact.
Seatbelts can reduce the risk of severe injury, but crashes involving direct front impact are often more dangerous due to the combined force of both vehicles. Road design, visibility, and driver awareness all influence how these crashes occur.
