How Do Lane Closures Impact Traffic After Highway Crashes?
Routes carrying regional traffic near Interstate 25 south of Wagon Mound can experience delays when even one lane is blocked. With fewer lanes available, vehicles must merge, which often slows overall traffic flow.
Highway speeds can make these situations more dangerous if drivers do not adjust quickly. Sudden braking and merging can increase the risk of additional crashes near the scene.
Emergency crews often keep at least one lane open when possible to reduce congestion. Even so, drivers may encounter backups until the crash is cleared and full access to the roadway is restored.
