Why Hit-and-Run Crashes Involving Pedestrians Are Often Complex
Hit-and-run accidents involving pedestrians often require detailed investigation because the driver leaves before providing information. Without the vehicle present, investigators must rely on other sources to determine what happened.
Witness statements can provide early clues about the type of vehicle involved or the direction it traveled. Even small details, such as color or size, can help narrow the search.
Investigators may also review surveillance cameras from nearby businesses, homes, or traffic systems. These recordings can sometimes capture the vehicle before or after the crash.
Physical evidence from the roadway may also help identify the vehicle. Debris, paint fragments, or vehicle parts left behind at the scene can sometimes help determine the make or model involved in the incident.
