West Columbia, SC (March 31, 2026) – New details have been released in the weekend, March 29, crash that sent a vehicle into the Black Rooster restaurant on Meeting St. According to updated information, the incident began around 11 p.m. on Sunset Blvd when a teen driving a 2025 Kia Sportage was reportedly speeding and caught the attention of an officer who attempted a traffic stop.
Police said the vehicle was moving too fast for the officer to obtain a tag number, and the attempted stop was soon discontinued because of the teen’s erratic driving. A short time later, the Kia crashed into the restaurant building on Meeting St, causing visible damage to the business.
Restaurant management later confirmed that two employees were hurt in the crash. The restaurant is expected to remain closed indefinitely while repairs are completed. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
Why Restaurant Building Crashes Often Lead to Extended Closures
When a vehicle crashes into a restaurant or other commercial building, the damage often goes beyond what is visible from the outside. Structural walls, support beams, windows, electrical wiring, and plumbing systems may all need inspection before the business can safely reopen.
In cases where employees or customers are inside, injury reports can also change as medical evaluations continue. Property owners usually review interior damage, kitchen equipment, and possible safety hazards caused by debris or broken glass. Insurance inspections and contractor assessments may also affect how long the location stays closed. In many cases, even a single impact can lead to days or weeks of repair work before normal operations resume.
