Washington Township, NJ (April 1, 2026) – A violent chain of events involving a carjacking ended in a major crash and multiple injuries on Monday afternoon in Gloucester County.
According to police, the incident began shortly before 1:50 p.m. when a man allegedly carjacked a tow truck near a Dollar General along Delsea Drive. The tow truck, which was carrying a vehicle on its flatbed, was then driven erratically down the roadway.
Authorities say the suspect crashed the tow truck head-on into two vehicles and a utility pole near Elmer’s Auto Body. The impact caused significant damage and left multiple people injured.
Witnesses described the crash as extremely loud and forceful, with one stating it sounded like an explosion. The collision also disrupted power and internet service to nearby businesses.
After the crash, the suspect attempted to flee the scene on foot but was pursued by bystanders and later taken into custody by responding officers. He was identified as 27-year-old Dylan Davis.
The two drivers of the other vehicles involved were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The suspect was also taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Police have charged Davis with carjacking, DUI, vehicle theft, and two counts of assault by auto. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues, and the authorities work to determine all contributing factors.
We wish a full and speedy recovery to those injured in this incident.
