Alexandria, LA (April 1, 2026) – A tragic hit-and-run crash on Eddie Williams Avenue claimed the life of a local teenager on Tuesday night, March 31.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. near the Tulane Avenue intersection, when 16-year-old Collin Lacaze of Alexandria Senior High School and a 16-year-old girl were standing on the shoulder. A southbound vehicle struck both and then fled the scene. Both victims were transported to a local medical center with serious injuries, but Lacaze was pronounced deceased shortly afterward. The identity of the other teen has not been released.
Authorities have not yet determined why the victims were on the side of the road. The Alexandria Police Department continues to investigate and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
Our condolences go out to Collin’s family, friends, teammates, and coaches during this difficult time.
Hit-and-Run Collisions and Their Risks
Hit-and-run crashes occur when a driver leaves the scene after striking a pedestrian, cyclist, or another vehicle. These incidents are especially dangerous because victims may not receive immediate care, and investigators must rely on witness accounts and video evidence to identify the responsible driver.
Pedestrians are particularly vulnerable in these crashes, and factors such as low visibility, road design, and traffic speed can increase the severity of injuries. Emergency responders and law enforcement work quickly to provide medical aid, secure the scene, and gather evidence to prevent further harm.
