What Factors Often Contribute to Pedestrian Crashes Involving Children
Crashes involving children often happen near intersections or areas with crossing traffic. Young pedestrians may move quickly or unpredictably, making it harder for drivers to react in time.
Visibility can also affect these situations, especially if there are curves, parked vehicles, or other obstructions. Drivers may not always see a child stepping into the roadway until it is too late to stop.
Children may also have difficulty judging the speed and distance of oncoming vehicles. Slowing down near intersections and staying alert for pedestrians can help reduce the risk of these types of incidents.
