Lacey, WA (April 5, 2026) – Washington State Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle collision on northbound Interstate 5 near Exit 111 that may involve a hit-and-run.
The crash occurred on Saturday, April 4, with both vehicles coming to rest on the right shoulder. Initial reports indicated uncertainty about whether the collision involved a fleeing driver. Authorities later linked the incident to a disorderly male seen at a nearby Taco Time, who witnesses believed was involved in the crash.
The suspect left the scene in a vehicle with significant front-end damage, possibly on rims, and was last observed speeding toward a nearby Walmart. By 8:30 p.m., troopers located the abandoned vehicle in the parking lot of Trapper’s Sushi, near Puerta Vallarta. Witnesses described the suspect as a Black male with long dreadlocks and facial injuries.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to locate the suspect and determine the full circumstances of the crash.

Understanding Hit-and-Run Collisions on Highways
Hit-and-run crashes can quickly escalate into dangerous situations, especially on highways where vehicles travel at high speeds. Drivers fleeing the scene increase the risk of further collisions and delay emergency medical response for injured parties.
Law enforcement often relies on witness accounts, vehicle descriptions, and nearby surveillance footage to identify suspects. Prompt reporting of suspicious behavior and accurate information can be critical in recovering fleeing drivers and ensuring public safety.
