How Turning Movements Can Lead to Motorcycle Crashes at Intersections
Collisions involving motorcycles often occur at intersections where vehicles make turns across traffic. These situations can become dangerous when drivers misjudge the speed or distance of an approaching motorcycle. Because motorcycles are smaller, they can be harder to see, especially in busy traffic or during quick turns.
Left or right turns across a motorcycle’s path can lead to serious outcomes, particularly when both vehicles are moving at the time of impact. Speed can also increase the severity of these crashes, reducing the time drivers have to react. In many cases, the positioning of vehicles and timing of the turn are key factors in how the crash unfolds. Road design, visibility, and traffic flow can also influence how these incidents happen.
