Baldwin Co., AL (April 21, 2026) – A 19-year-old Mobile woman died early Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 10 west of Loxley, following a multi-vehicle crash.
The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. when emergency units were called to the westbound lanes of I-10 about one mile west of Loxley. Authorities reported that the woman, identified as Jasmine R. Harris, was outside a vehicle and standing in the roadway when she was struck.
Investigators said Harris had been a passenger in a Mitsubishi Mirage involved in an earlier crash. After exiting the vehicle, she was in the roadway when a GMC Sierra pickup truck struck her. The pickup then collided with the Mitsubishi, which was still in the roadway.
Harris was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, a 22-year-old man from Lucedale, Mississippi, was not reported injured. The driver of the Mitsubishi, an 18-year-old from Mobile, was also involved in the earlier crash.
No charges have been announced at this time.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
What Happens in Secondary Highway Incidents After an Initial Crash
Secondary incidents can occur when a roadway remains partially obstructed after an initial crash. In these situations, vehicles or individuals on the road may still be exposed to oncoming traffic while the emergency response is ongoing.
High-speed highways like Interstate 10 pose greater risks in low-visibility or unexpected stoppage conditions, especially at night. Even after a first collision, additional impacts can occur if vehicles or people remain in active traffic lanes.
Investigators typically examine the sequence of events to determine how each collision occurred. This includes reviewing vehicle positions, roadway conditions, and the timing of subsequent impacts following the initial crash.
