Framingham, MA (April 23, 2026) – One person was hurt after a house fire broke out early Thursday morning, April 23, at a multi-family home on Highland St.
The fire started around 4 a.m. at 9 Highland St, where flames quickly spread through the first floor. Emergency units arrived to find heavy fire conditions and began an aggressive interior attack. The heat from the blaze was so intense that it melted siding on a nearby home.
Crews worked for about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control after it spread to other parts of the building. A second alarm was called to bring in additional resources to help contain the situation.
A 22-year-old man suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital. No other injuries were reported. Seven people were displaced by the fire and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, and more details will be released as they become available. We are thinking of the injured individual as they recover from this incident.
How House Fires Can Spread Quickly in Multi-Family Homes
Fires in multi-family homes can move fast due to shared walls, ceilings, and ventilation systems. Once flames reach one unit, they can travel into adjacent spaces through hidden gaps or ducts. This can make it harder to contain the fire early.
Heat buildup also adds to the danger. High temperatures can damage nearby structures, even if flames do not directly reach them. Materials like vinyl siding may melt or warp from radiant heat alone.
Smoke inhalation is one of the most common risks in house fires. Even brief exposure can lead to breathing problems, especially in enclosed areas. Working smoke detectors can provide early warning, giving people more time to leave safely.
