Columbus, OH (April 23, 2026) – A woman lost her life, and another person was hurt following a two-car crash early Thursday morning, April 23, in the Blacklick area. The collision took place around 5:51 a.m. at the intersection of Havens Corners Rd and N Waggoner Rd.
Authorities reported that a black Acura TLX was traveling east on Havens Corners Rd while a black Honda Pilot was heading north on N Waggoner Rd. The Honda struck the Acura in the intersection, sending both vehicles off the northwest side of the roadway. The Acura then hit a utility pole, breaking it, and the falling pole landed on the Honda, pulling down live power lines.
Emergency units responded to the scene, and power crews shut off electricity to the downed lines. The Acura driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. The Honda driver, also alone, was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:55 a.m. She was later identified as 43-year-old Lakesha Marbury of Columbus.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available. Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.
What Can Happen When Utility Poles Are Struck in a Crash?
When a vehicle hits a utility pole, the impact can create additional hazards beyond the initial crash. Poles often carry electrical lines, and damage can cause wires to fall onto vehicles or the roadway. This raises the risk of electrical exposure for anyone nearby.
Fallen lines may still carry active current, even if they appear inactive. This can make rescue efforts more complex, as crews must wait for power to be shut off before safely approaching the scene. In some cases, surrounding areas may lose electricity until repairs are completed.
Crashes involving poles can also increase damage severity due to the solid structure of the object. These situations often lead to longer road closures while crews clear debris and restore services.
