Tucson, AZ (April 25, 2026) – A fatal crash occurred on Wednesday, April 22, near East Drexel Road and South Tucson Boulevard, resulting in one death and injuries to a teenage driver.
Authorities said a 16-year-old was driving northbound on Tucson Boulevard at a high rate of speed when the vehicle struck 48-year-old Richard Bracamonte. He was making a left turn onto southbound Tucson Boulevard at the time of the collision.
Emergency units transported both drivers to a hospital. Bracamonte later died from life-threatening injuries shortly after arrival. The teen driver was treated for minor injuries.
Investigators reported that speeding and failure to yield were major contributing factors in the crash. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available.
Our condolences go out to the family of Bracamonte.
How Speeding and Turning Movements Can Lead to Severe Crashes
Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to react in time to changing road conditions or turning vehicles. When a driver approaches an intersection too quickly, even small decisions by other motorists can become dangerous.
Left turns are also a common point of conflict in traffic because they require crossing oncoming lanes. When visibility, timing, or speed judgment is off, collisions can occur with little time to avoid impact. These types of crashes are often more severe due to the angle and force of the collision.
