Dallas, TX (April 26, 2026) – A wrong-way driver triggered a three-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on the Dallas North Tollway, leading to injuries and temporary lane closures.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 12:20 a.m. in the southbound lanes between Mockingbird Lane and University Boulevard. Investigators say a driver was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when they collided head-on with another vehicle.
The initial impact led to a chain-reaction crash involving a third vehicle shortly afterward. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the drivers involved in the head-on collision to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
Authorities closed the southbound lanes of the tollway for approximately two hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the incident. Traffic was impacted in the area before lanes were eventually reopened. The crash remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with those injured as they recover.
What Makes Wrong-Way Crashes on Tollways Especially Dangerous?
Wrong-way crashes on tollways and highways are particularly dangerous because they often result in head-on collisions at high speeds. Drivers traveling in the correct direction have little time to react when suddenly faced with an oncoming vehicle.
These types of incidents can quickly escalate into multi-vehicle crashes, as seen in chain-reaction collisions following the initial impact. Reduced visibility at night and driver impairment are common contributing factors in wrong-way driving events.
Preventative measures such as improved signage, roadway lighting, and public awareness can help reduce these incidents. Drivers should also remain alert and report suspected wrong-way vehicles immediately to authorities to help prevent serious crashes.
