Stamford, CT (April 26, 2026) – A 66-year-old pedestrian tragically lost their life after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Stamford on Saturday afternoon.
According to Stamford police, the incident occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. at the intersection of Strawberry Hill Avenue and Colonial Road. Authorities say the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk when a Toyota pickup truck, driven by a 50-year-old local resident, turned east onto Colonial Road and struck the individual.
The impact knocked the pedestrian to the ground, causing life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders transported the victim to Stamford Hospital in critical condition, where they later succumbed to their injuries early Sunday morning.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. No additional charges have been announced at this time.
The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is continuing to investigate the incident and is asking anyone with information to come forward.
