What Happens in Suspected Impaired Driving Crashes Involving Pedestrians?
When a pedestrian is struck by a vehicle, emergency responders prioritize rapid medical care due to the high risk of serious injury. Transport to a trauma center is often required, depending on the severity of impact.
In suspected impaired driving cases, officers typically conduct an on-scene investigation and may arrest if evidence supports it. This can include field observations and witness statements.
Investigators later review roadway conditions, driver behavior, and timing of the crash to help determine how the incident occurred and whether impairment played a role.
