Authorities responded to the 300 block of Christy Place at the Martin Asphalt Co facility after reports of a serious incident involving hazardous materials. Preliminary information indicates the victim was working at the site when a release of hot asphalt occurred, possibly due to a tank or equipment failure.
Emergency crews, including the Houston Fire Department and hazmat teams, arrived on scene to secure the area and assist with recovery operations. Despite their efforts, one individual was pronounced dead as a result of the incident.
Officials worked to contain any potential hazards and ensure the safety of other workers at the facility. No additional injuries have been confirmed at this time.
