How Does Impaired Driving Increase the Risk of Serious Crashes?
Driving under the influence significantly affects a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely. Alcohol can impair judgment, slow reaction times, and reduce coordination, making it more difficult to stay in the correct lane or respond to changing traffic conditions.
Crossing into oncoming traffic is one of the most dangerous outcomes of impaired driving, often leading to head-on collisions that result in severe injuries or worse. These crashes can also involve secondary hazards, such as vehicle fires, which further increase the danger for those involved.
Law enforcement agencies continue to emphasize the importance of planning ahead and avoiding driving after consuming alcohol. Using alternative transportation can help prevent crashes and save lives.
