Why Bicycle Crashes on Two-Lane Roads Can Lead to Severe Injuries
Crashes involving bicycles and larger vehicles often result in serious injuries because cyclists have little physical protection during an impact. On two-lane roads, vehicles and bicycles may travel close to one another, increasing the risk of collisions.
Reduced visibility during evening hours can also affect how quickly drivers and cyclists notice each other. Road width, lighting conditions, and vehicle speed are often reviewed after these incidents to better understand how the crash occurred.
Investigators typically examine tire marks, vehicle positioning, and witness statements when reconstructing bicycle crashes. These findings can help clarify movement patterns and contributing factors leading up to the collision.
