What Can Lead to Rear-End Crashes on Rural Highways?
Rear-end crashes on rural highways often happen when traffic slows suddenly, or drivers fail to notice stopped or turning vehicles ahead. Long stretches of open road can create a false sense of security, leading to higher speeds and reduced reaction time.
Intersections along highways can also increase risk, especially when vehicles are turning or crossing traffic. Limited visibility, distracted driving, or following too closely may all contribute to these incidents. In some cases, the force of impact can cause severe damage or even fires, particularly if fuel systems are compromised.
Staying alert, maintaining a safe following distance, and reducing speed near intersections can help lower the chances of these types of crashes.
