Albuquerque, NM (September 19, 2025) – A traffic accident with reported injuries disrupted westbound lanes of I-40 near San Mateo Blvd Wednesday afternoon. The crash occurred around 2:04 p.m. and drew a medical and fire response from city emergency crews.
According to radio dispatch, Engine 13 and Rescue 13 from Albuquerque-Bernalillo County and Rio Rancho Fire/Rescue were sent to the scene under a 29 Bravo 1 designation—a classification used for moderate-priority incidents involving confirmed injuries. The crash resulted in at least one person being hurt, though the exact number of victims and the severity of their injuries have not yet been confirmed by authorities.
The collision caused significant traffic delays on westbound I-40 as responders provided on-site care and began clearing the affected area near the San Mateo exit. The extent of the damage and the number of vehicles involved remain under investigation.
