Amherst, NY (September 15, 2025) – A 32-year-old man from Buffalo sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon involving a Jeep Wrangler in Amherst. The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. on September 14 along Main St near the intersection with Callodine Ave.
According to Amherst Police, the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on a 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle when a 50-year-old woman driving a 2016 Jeep Wrangler eastbound attempted to make a left turn onto northbound Callodine Ave. In doing so, she entered the motorcyclist’s path, resulting in a violent collision that ejected the rider from his bike.
Emergency medical services responded swiftly, and the injured rider was transported by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC). He suffered serious head and hand injuries but is currently listed in stable condition, authorities said. The driver of the Jeep and her passenger were not injured in the crash.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and police have not indicated whether any citations or charges have been filed.
Our thoughts are with the injured motorcyclist, and we wish him a strong and full recovery.
Motorcycle Safety and Left-Turn Crashes in New York
Motorcycle crashes at intersections are among the most dangerous collisions on New York roadways—and Sunday’s crash at Main St and Callodine Ave is a striking example. A high percentage of these accidents occur when a driver misjudges a motorcyclist’s speed or distance while attempting to make a left turn, often leaving the rider with little time or space to react.
In this case, the 32-year-old rider was reportedly ejected from his motorcycle after impact—a clear indication of the force involved. Injuries to the head and hands are especially concerning in motorcycle accidents, as they can signal potential trauma that requires long-term recovery. Even with a helmet and protective gear, riders remain highly exposed during these types of collisions.
Main St in Amherst is a busy, multi-lane corridor with frequent turning movements, especially near residential areas like Callodine Ave. Accidents at these intersections are not uncommon, and they often point to challenges with visibility, speed control, and miscommunication between drivers and motorcyclists.
For motorcyclists injured in left-turn crashes, the road to recovery can be long and complex. Beyond medical care, there may be financial strains due to missed work, long-term rehabilitation, and vehicle replacement. Understanding liability and knowing where to turn for help are essential steps in the aftermath of such a crash.
