Anaheim, CA (August 21, 2025) – A chaotic multi-vehicle crash involving at least 10 to 12 vehicles occurred Saturday evening on the westbound side of the 91 Freeway near the interchange with CA-55, prompting a massive emergency response and causing extensive traffic disruptions. The crash was reported at approximately 7:42 p.m. on August 17 and was swiftly upgraded to a Level 2 Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) by MetroNet Fire crews on scene.
According to dispatch communications, a black pickup truck reportedly struck other vehicles in the center median at high speed, igniting a chain-reaction collision that spanned multiple freeway lanes. The crash occurred near the Gore Point, a particularly busy merge zone where traffic from CA-55 South joins westbound 91.
Responders from Engine 8, Truck 8, and Ambulance 8 were first to arrive, confirming significant vehicle damage and numerous injured individuals. Additional ambulances were immediately requested due to the scale of the incident. At least two patients were reported to have been ejected or found outside their vehicles, suggesting serious trauma.
Traffic on westbound 91 and the transition to CA-55 South was entirely shut down as responders secured the scene, assessed the injured, and began extrication efforts. The California Highway Patrol also responded to assist with traffic control and crash investigation.
As of now, the total number of injuries remains unconfirmed, though emergency responders treated multiple victims at the scene. The incident is under investigation, and authorities are examining vehicle speeds, driving behavior, and road conditions to determine contributing factors.
