Athens, AL (September 4, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning claimed the life of a 61-year-old Athens man and left another driver injured, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). The collision occurred around 7:34 a.m. on September 3 along Brownsferry Road near Carter Road, approximately three miles south of Athens in Limestone County.
Authorities report that Gary D. Brown was behind the wheel of a 2007 Ford Focus when it collided with a 2021 Toyota Corolla driven by 25-year-old Joshua D. Odom of Anderson. The force of the impact caused both vehicles to veer off the roadway and into a ditch.
Brown suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Odom sustained injuries and was transported to Athens Hospital for treatment. No additional details regarding his condition have been released at this time.
State troopers from ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division responded to the scene and are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the fatal crash. It is currently unclear what factors contributed to the collision.
